Apply to the Certificate in Law

  • Fall term application dates are open June 1 - August 1 for courses starting in September
  • Winter term application dates are open October 1 - December 1 for courses starting in January
  • Summer term application dates are open February 1 - April 1 for courses starting in May

Admission criteria for the Certificate in Law is located below. All applications are processed through the Queen’s Undergraduate Admissions Office and there is a $100 application that can be paid by VISA, Mastercard or pre-paid VISA. Credit/Debit is NOT accepted as a payment method. Once your application has been successfully submitted, you will receive a payment receipt and email from Undergraduate Admissions that outlines next steps within 3-5 business days.

NOTE: Once offer has been accepted, a student account will be created and you will be assigned a student number and Net ID within 5-7 business days.

IMPORTANT: After you have accepted your offer, all correspondence pertaining to the Certificate in Law is sent to your Queen's email address and not email used when submitting your application. Students will be issued a NetID from Queen's with instructions on how to activate it, once the offer of admission has been accepted. You can access Queen's email through Microsoft Outlook (https://office365.queensu.ca). If you experience issues with email, contact Queen's ITS for further guidance. 

Certificate in Law Categories:

Students must be highly proficient in the English language, meeting minimum undergraduate degree language proficiency requirements;

Current On-campus Queen's students: 

  • A minimum CGPA of 2.60 or higher 
  • Completed first year of studies in a full-time undergraduate degree program 

Online Non-Degree Continuing:

  • Completed at least one year of studies in a full-time undergraduate degree program with a minimum CGPA of 2.60
  • Completed at least one year of studies in an online degree program at Queen's University
  • Successful completion of a degree program at a recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 2.60
  • Successful completion of a two-year diploma or two years of a three-year full-time advanced diploma program with a minimum CGPA of 2.90

You will need to provide an official transcript to the Undergraduate Admissions Office during the application process for the Certificate in Law. Post-secondary institutions vary in terms of their diploma and degree offerings and GPA standings. Online Non-Degree Interest:

  • For those who want to take one or two courses for interest purposes or who do not meet the admission requirements for the online non-degree continuing option. 
  • Applicants must be over 21 years of age in the calendar year of admission. 
  • This is not intended as a pathway to on-campus studies and students are unable to enroll in courses outside the Faculty of Law. 
  • Non-degree interest students do have the option to complete the Certificate in Law. After completing two courses at the 700-level and providing you meet the Faculty of Law's academic progression policy which is a minimum final grade of C+, you may be matriculated as a Certificate in Law student to finish requirements.
